Inlays and Onlays

A partial crown can also be referred to as inlays or onlays and can be used for a variety of reasons, including strengthening a tooth, preventing further damage, or restoring a tooth’s shape. When there is no damage to the cusps of the tooth, an inlay is used and is placed on top of the tooth. When there is more damage to the whole tooth, an onlay extends over the cusps of the tooth.

First, we will remove the decayed area of the tooth. We will take a mold of your tooth and send it to our dental lab where a restoration is made from composite resin, gold, or porcelain. While waiting for this restoration to be created (usually 2-3 weeks), we will place a temporary onlay or inlay in your tooth. On you second visit, the permanent inlay/onlay is placed, and we will set it with cement. The result is a natural look that you will love.
